Panel was good

yuck

my flight is canceled, so I’m driving down to West Virginia for this panel.

blizzard pix

Taken by yours truly, mostly on my walk to work.

Also, Dawn just bought the whole office blizzard pizza! Hurray for Dawn!

UPDATE: I sent one of these photos to S., who is visiting L.A. She sent me back this cameraphone pic:

soft, wet and slightly sticky

Night glows with the snowfall

I think what we are dealing with here is amazingly good snowball snow….

double loop

Did 12 miles in the park today (1:50). Def. was dragging after the first loop. I need to do more long distance stuff.

I forgot to mention, Thursday I attended a press launch party for the Eco Primal Quest, the world’s biggest adventure race. It is 500 miles of running, paddling and biking over […]

Always a classy guy.

i’m in

Well, to quote girly (who is awesome), “it’s on, bitches.” I decided I could not pass up the Vegas trip. Apparently I was the not the only one who thought the $1,000 budget was rather extravagant and the best man sent out a revised budget yesterday. I’m flying out of Islip airport in Long Island, […]

vegas, baby … or not

So my good friend Dylan is getting married in June … and I’m seriously considering not coming to the bachelor party. Lame, huh? But jeez, I just don’t see how I can afford this extravagant three-day weekend in Vegas the best man has planned. I got an email from him yesterday, saying to budget $1,000 […]

genealogy

I had never especially been interested in genealogy until a few years ago, when I did a story about blacks tracing their ancestry using the Freedman’s Bank records. Two years ago I briefly joined Ancestry.com, and within moments I was looking at 1920 and 1930 census data for my grandparents. It was amazing.

I learned […]

manhattan half-marathon

Here is the Rundown, on the Manhattan Half-Marathon the other day.

And here’s a few photos of your truly running it. (I did terrible, but my quad appears to be better).

Jyllands-Posten cartoon controversy

So is everyone up to speed on the Jyllands-Posten cartoon controversy? Yesterday I meant to post the most offensive image with a headline of “standing up for free speech” or something equally sophomoric. News that the State Department denounced the cartoons gave me pause, as did this excellent, thought-provoking article from the Times of London:

[…]

mica bar

I am just back from the Mica Bar, where my best nyc friend Jon had his going-away party for his corporate law firm gig. (He’s switching firms). I had an interesting discussion with his ex-secretary, who at first I mistook for a partner — she’s very smart, but never developed her own career. Now she […]

bush sotu analysis

This is not a political blog. I’m not really that political a person. So when I pass along a link to my friend Alexis’ Village Voice article on Bush’s State of the Union address, I’m not necessarily endorsing the sentiments expressed. But it is an interesting read.

problems with derekrose.com

Okay, is anyone else having trouble reaching derekrose.com? Obviously, if you reading this, you must have connected … but ever since I switched servers on Sunday, I am having trouble. Please let me know if you are, too.

not dead yet

I thought I might give you all periodic updates on the bonsai tree my brother got me for Christmas. So far it is still alive. A few leaves have turned brown and fallen off, but that is normal, right? It even survived a week without watering while I was in West Virginia.

Right now […]
