Congrats on finishing in under 4 hours. I know you have run it faster than that many times, but still it is an accomplishment to run it in under 4 hours. And you seem to have kept a very steady pace in the second half. (Though I just have the splits to go by, you might have been stopping and starting.)

I wonder, however, if long time reader and poster NYFlyGirl beat you in her first marathon?

Nice work Big D. Any marathon finish under 4 is quite respectable; and overall, to finish is to win. With less nights out and more mileage, Boston will be yours someday. Hope you’re hoisting a big beer right now and enjoying the accomplishment.

  • Hey guys much thanks. I am sore but happy. I knew going in I hadn’t really trained as hard as I normally do — too many distractions over the summer. But I thought I ran a good race. It’s always a much more enjoyable experience when you cross the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan at mile 16 and are able to pick up the pace a little because you’re feeling good. I think my split for mile 26 was 8:40 or something, if that tells you anything.

I never saw Flygirl but just managed to beat her – she was 3:58. I knew she could do it in under four hours!!

    Hi

Can you please find out what time Brit. Dean Ellison finished today’s NY Marathon please? His bib was no. 710 as far as I know.

    Cheers

Great work! Can’t wait to hear the whole story!

  • CONGRATULATIONS!

It continues to amaze me that you do this. Always will. I can’t even imagine.

  • i actually did see Derek but he didn’t see me-he was trying to get into my section on the bridge before the start. Just figures he wants to get with the ladies 🙂

Many congrats on today. (and you may have beaten me on time, but I ran the more even race. so there :-p )

Tallman-many thanks for the support 🙂

(oh one more thing-Derek-did you see the sign around mile 6 in Brooklyn that said “Slow down, this isn’t a 10K”?)

  • Well done, Derek. If you can do sub-4:oo, especially with not too much training, that’s really impressive indeed. Congratulations!

  • Those splits are really impressive – definitely a well-run race. Nice work.
