A beer at Perdition for anyone who can answer either of these two questions. (You must come to HK to claim).
1. Why are there so many freakin’ Germans here in Venezuela? A lot of the signs and tourist information is in Spanish and German. C and I had dinner at a faux German restaurant last night. And the prompts on C’s computer at the Internet cafe we’re at right now in Margarita is in German. WTF? It seemed like there were always a lot of Germans in New Zealand as well. Now I know that Germany is a prosperous country so maybe they could be expected to go a long way on vacation … but you don’t see any French here. Are the Germans just more adventurous?
2. What would ANTS want with PETALS? Seriously we saw tens of ants carrying these pink petals last night. We traced ’em back to where the petals had dropped from a tree 40 feet away. The ants in formation carried ’em down through a fence and into a grassy lot. I have no idea what they were doing with ’em. We left and came back 15 minutes later and they were still at it. I took a little video with my phone that I will upload eventually but in the meantime here is a picture.
1. Germans have, on average, six weeks of vacation time every year. They’re also prosperous, like you said, and they’re prone to traveling. I mean, look at how far they traveled in WW I and WW II.
2. The ants are going to use the petals for mulch to build nests. They chew them, puke ’em back up, and then the mulch hardens into very nice home material– er, if you’re an ant, at least.
Methinks there are a lot of Germans in Venezuela bc Germans settled there way back when (in the 1500s). They didn’t stay too long bc the natives weren’t friendly, and the tropical diseases weren’t much fun. Some eventually came back in the 1800s or so and founded a town called Tovar Colony.
I’m also gonna disagree with #2. I think the ants are gonna use the petals for food.
Game on… 🙂
I agree with themofo about the Germans, whenever I travel somewhere most US people don’t I wind up seeing Germans.
Also, about the ants, I think’s it’s both food and building material. Check out the ones I ran into in Argentina: http://whatisee.org/mt/archives/entries/000392.html
A lot of the Germans moved there after the world war 2 The Vens asked no questions Also sounds it sounds wrong bu the Germans are renowned for finding the best and cheapest places to go to. they were big tourists in Turkey before it got popular
