I ended up visited the USS Arizona memorial with my German friend I met at the hostel. Very understated and elegant. A Japanese Zero scored a direct hit on the battleship during the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, killing 1,177 men. The battleship was never salvaged and still lies on the harbor’s floor in 40 feet of water … we saw fuel oil still bubbling up from the wreck and beautiful zebra fish swimming above the ocean grave.
