the downside of being skinny

Okay, so goal one is accomplished! Or half-accomplished. I have been <168 lbs. for a solid week. Actually I got down under 168 two weeks ago but then gorged at my Super Bowl party and was at 169.5. But now I am back on track. Part two of this first goal is to remain under 170 for the rest of the year, so I can’t entirely move it into the “done” column.

However I must say there is a downside to losing weight. LIKE JEESUZ CHRIST IT IS COLD. Like I am down to 6-8% body fat (from 9-11%) if you believe my little Tanita scale/body fat monitor. I really think I feel the cold more. After running the Bronx half-marathon (1:42:49) on Sunday I was wearing my wet running clothes on the subway and shivering so badly one of my fellow competitors gave me two handwarmers. So nice of her. No one else was shivering like that!

I have also caught the shivers after the Manhattan half and after speedwork with the Flyers, my running club. Okay so maybe I make it a habit of wandering around the subway in my wet clothes.

Anyway so I do not want anyone to think I am wasting away so I will include a photo after the jump.

In other news, I tried bikram yoga with this studio yesterday after the race. Yiiikees. This is the “hot” yoga where the studio is at 105 degrees and you try different poses. I am sooo flippin’ inflexible. It was rather different from the other yoga I did at the Kula Project which they describe as a “freestyle vinyasa,” which is a little more cardio. This was just holding poses. It was challenging and, honestly, a little painful for me as a beginner. The teacher claims that once you “get” the flexibility, though, it never really goes away. I paid $21 for the beginner special of a week of unlimited classes so will try again.
