Here are the rules:
1. Go into your archives.
2. Find your 23rd post.
3. Find the fifth sentence (or the closest one to it)
4. Post the text of your sentence in your blog along with these rules.
5. Tag five other people.

Okay, I’ve been tagged by Su, but my 23rd post was short. Very short. I guess closest sentence to the fifth was, “But I plan on being better.” It had to do with blogging … I wasn’t being very good about updating my blog at the time — back in 2001. No one was reading blogs back then!

Interesting NYT story on nyc marathon runners being warned about the dangers of drinking too much…

UPDATE: I suppose I should do some tagging of my own… hmm. This is a running blog thing, so … Uptown Girl, Party Runner, Beast, Citizen Frank and Benjamin Wagner … although the last two aren’t exclusively running bloggers. Whatever, I don’t think anyone would complain if this thing died.

  • Wow….it’s amazing how much I’ve read about this over the past year. Pretty scary stuff though. Thanks for sharing as I definitely will keep this in mind for my 26.2 mile journey.

  • Derek –
I too have been reading a lot about over drinking. In fact, my mom called me one morning just to alert me to it. I think if you make sure to take in enough salt, it’s fine. When I ran the San Diego marathon last year, they handed out salt packets on the course. I’m running NYC this year, I’m not sure if they do the same, it might be worth it just to bring some from the last time I ordered takeout…

Kill off this tagging trend immediately, pls.

  • Re: drinking water – I just think if you’re best off repeating whatever you did in your long runs. (How do you know you’ll get the salt mixture right?) Eight ounces of water every 20 minutes is a decent amount, you could drink a small cupful each mile and be within that limit. The way the weather has been, we won’t have to worry about the heat…
