mohammed cartoons, take 2

I have a letter up on Romenesko. Here is the version with links.

Another day, another two newspapers — the Village Voice and the Emerson College Beacon — have chosen to run the Mohammed cartoons. So now over 135 newspapers newspapers throughout Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand have printed the cartoons, according to this list on Wikipedia. Not one has had their offices firebombed, their editors beaten or their printing presses smashed.

Muslims in the United States have reacted just how they should react — by exercising their own freedom of speech, to protest and demonstrate.

I think there are good arguments both for and against printing the cartoons. But I just hope the editors at the Boston Phoenix are feeling a tad embarassed for their hysterical, over the top, cowardly Muslim-baiting editorial. “We feel forced, literally, to bend to maniacal pressure …” Please.

My earlier take on the controversy can be found here.
