brooklyn half

I can feel excitement building for the Brooklyn Half-Marathon on Saturday. The race has always seemed to me to mark the start of the summer racing season, even though daylight savings doesn’t begin until April 2.

It looks like there will be two NYDN reporters racing as well, E.E. and S.S. In my five years at the paper I don’t think I’ve raced with a single other Daily News reporter, so this will be good. Also somewhat inactive bloggers Ellen and Alli-Z are planning on running it as well. I tried to start a rivalry between the two of them the other day, but don’t think that I succeeded. Still, I will be curious to see how they all do.

As for myself, it would be good to beat the 1:36:25 I ran in the Staten Island half last year. Anything under 1:35 would be great. And guess I’d be satisfied with bettering my course record of 1:37:56, set in 2001.

It looks like temps might be in the 30s, as hard as that is to imagine right now.

P.S. If anyone needs a ride, I’m planning on driving from Hell’s Kitchen to Prospect Park and taking the subway from there.

  • I’m pumped for the Brooklyn half! Can you believe it’s been a year since you started the rundown (just about anyway)?

  • Yeah, it’s been hibernating for the winter, but I plan on starting it up again.

  • the predicted temps keep creeping up every day…maybe, just maybe, it might be shorts weather (you know i’m not taking this race uber-seriously when i care more about being able to wear a cuter running outfit than i do about my time! 🙂 )

as for you guys-i just hope that whatever predicted snow for friday wont be a problem and that the race can start on the boardwalk instead of doing 2 loops in prospect park…

  • It’d actually have to be more than 2 loops of PP as each loop is 3.35;-) But from what I hear not much of a snow event Friday….whew.

  • Yes, your attempts at creating a rivalry were entirely unsuccessful, mostly because we’re both just hoping to finish. However I am looking forward to beating my Staten Island time which shouldn’t be too hard as long as I actually run the whole thing.
