where are they now?

nomarHow the various players traded and not re-signed by the BoSox are doing these days, roughly ordered by how well they’re doing.

  • Nomar Garciaparra. .362 avg/.427 obp/.606 slg with 5 HR, 34 RBI. He’s played 33 games at first base for the the Dodgers and has a better slugging percentage than either Big Papi or Manny. At just $6 million this year he’s a huge bargain if he stays healthy.
  • Pedro Martinez. Petey is 5-1 with the Mets but could be 9-1. 2.79 ERA. Obviously the guy they got to replace him, Matt Clement, hasn’t pitched well since getting beaned on the head last season.
  • Hanley Ramirez. Word is the Sox traded him because they thought he couldn’t hit. But he’s .317/.388/.456 with the Marlins, along with 16 stolen bases. Obv. the Sox have done very well with both Beckett and Lowell though.
  • Freddy Sanchez. Remember him? Former top prospect hitting .327/.361/.490 with 4HR and 25 RBI in 153 at-bats for the Pirates. He’s played third base, second base and shortstop. We didn’t do too well with Suppan and Sauerbeck, the guys we traded for him.
  • Edgar Renteria. .333/.415/.474 with 5HR with the Braves. Already six errors though, compared to just one by Alex Gonzalez.
  • Orlando Cabrera. 2004 season hero is hitting .279/.333/.426 with 4HR, 32RBI for the Angels. Last year he hit .257 with eight homers.
  • Derek Lowe. 3-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 1.11 WHIP for the Dodgers. (6th in the NL in WHIP, 10th in ERA) Not bad, but he’s making $9.5 million this year.
  • Todd Walker. .309 avg/.378 obp/.424 slg with 3HR, 25 RBI. He’s played more games at first base (26) than second (17) for the Cubbies.
  • Brandon Lyon. Former Sox closer has 3.97 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, which is not bad considering he’s pitching for the Rockies.
  • Matt Murton. .286 avg/.362 obp/.409 slg, 4HR, 20RBI. We lost him in the Nomar trade; now he’s batting seventh and playing everyday left field for the Cubbies.
  • pedro martinez

  • Bill Mueller. Was hitting just .252/.357/.402 in 107 at-bats for the Dodgers before going on the DL May 12 to have arthroscopic knee surgery.
  • Mark Bellhorn. He’s playing third-base for the Padres, with a .326 OBP and 4 HR in 85 at-bats.
  • Kevin Millar. Hitting just .229 with 3 HR in 118 at-bats for the Orioles.
  • Alan Embree. 5.00 ERA, 1.39 WHIP in 18 innings for the Padres.
  • Doug Mientkiewicz. .258/.335/.368 with the Royals.
  • Andy Marte. Hitting just .246 with two homers in 179 at-bats with AAA Buffalo.
  • Sunny Kim and Seung Song, the pitchers traded to the Marlins in the 2002 Cliff Floyd deal. Kim has pitched seven innings for the Rockies and has a 18 ERA while Song is pitching in AA. When Floyd signed with the Mets in 2003 as a free agent the Sox got Murton and Abe Alvarez as compensation picks. Alvarez hasn’t pitched well in the bigs so far, but is expected to earn another callup Wednesday, possibly replacing David Wells as the scheduled starter. (Papelbon was the 114th pick in that 2003 draft)

Nice summary Big D. Too bad we sent Bronson Arroyo to the NL and not Clement. As Cincy’s ace, he should get top billing over Nomar. Didn’t the Sox used to have some guy named Johnny Damon? Dave Roberts is having a good year with Padres. Ya gotta love Guillermo Mota’s stats (0-3, 5.64) with the Tribe this year. Shoppach will get back to the Indians someday. Scott Williamson’s doing well for the Cubbies. Shame about Pokey Reese’s problems. I hope Mike Myers serves up more meatballs to Papi in clutch situations. Gotta love B.H. Kim rediscovering his command in the Mile High air of Denver, of all places. Where have you gone, Curtis the Mechanic Leskanic?

You got that tux form or what?
