The FDA approved the HPV vaccine Gardasil today. HPV, the human papilloma virus, is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the U.S.
HPV can cause cervical cancer and genital warts; the four HPV strains the vaccine protects against are responsible for 70% of all cases of cervical cancer and 90% of genital warts. Some 80% of women will develop HPV by age 50. (AP story). There is still no HPV test for men.
One researcher is saying it’s a breakthrough on a part with the “polio vaccine, and antibiotics.”
I think you can even transmit or get HPV without having sexual intercourse, which is why it’s so transmittable.
Men don’t have to worry about cervical cancer, obviously, but they can worry about giving HPV to someone.
True, but men can’t know they have it unless they develop genital warts.
Illllllll ……….. you’re so informed ………. too informed…….
but… when will they cure butt cancer?
There is a reason why I’m so informed on this, but I’m not going to get into it. A girl I dated for several months recently just tested negative for HPV, so I sorta imagine I don’t have it. But there is no way to tell.
Interestingly enough, my sister went to the doctor last week for her annual visit, and our doctor asked if she wanted the vaccine. Apparently he’ll have them in his office in a few months. So fast! Unfortunately, it is only being offered to women up to age 26 at this time.
