So Saturday I had planned to drive up to Harriman State Park … only I got turned around and ended up at Bear Mountain. Oooops. Oh well. It was still a good 45-minute run up the mountain, and good to get out of the city for a bit. Kinda a long drive up there, though … no wonder I don’t do it more often.
I’m thinking, though, that I might go on a big hike in August. My little brother is working in Aspen for the summer, and I am planning to go visit him … but I also have some vacation time I need to use up this year (or I’ll lose it), so I’m thinking I might make an 11-day trip out of it and visit Rocky Mountain National Park.
An 11-day trip would basically mean blowing all my vacation days — I really didn’t think I had so many — but the plan is to use frequent flier miles to do this and that doesn’t give me much flexibility.
Still, I’m inclined to do this. In 2001 I visited Glacier Mountain National Park in Montana; that trip was one of the best decisions I ever made, ever. (Incidentally, the Times has an arts story about Glacier in today’s paper).
