derek roseI’m one of a few Derek Roses out there… there’s also this guy, as well as this British company that sells $200+ luxury pajamas.

“The success of Derek Rose is based on the design, fabric, quality of construction and impeccable presentation of the merchandise,” says their site. “The satin stripe pyjamas for which we have become known worldwide are made from 2-fold yarn in the satin, giving the cloth more depth, a brighter sheen and longer wear. All designs are exclusive to Derek Rose.”

This pajama company has the domain derek-rose.com, but occasionally people forget to include the dash, and so the email goes to me. Every few months I get missives meant for Sasha Rose, the company’s joint managing director. So far I’ve just passed them along, but I told Sasha if it keeps up I want some free pajamas out of the deal…

Derek SandersonAlso, I’d think the spelling of “Derek Rose” would be pretty obvious, but there are in fact other ways to spell Derek. (And sometimes the words run together and people here, “Derek Gross.” Yuck). Since moving to New York, when people ask how to say my name, I tell ’em, “Derek like Jeter, Rose like the flower.”

Jeter is actually named for Derek Sanderson, a famous Boston Bruins hockey player in the 70s (Jeter’s middle name is Sanderson). That’s actually how I got my name too, although I wasn’t really named “after” Sanderson. But my parents went to a Bruins game when my mother was pregnant, saw Sanderson play, and decided “Derek Rose” had a nice ring to it.
