Ran the Hot Chocolate 15K yesterday … 1:10:11, or a 7:32 pace. I tried to tried it as a good hard run, and not a race, having raced the previous two weekends. It is a PR, but my 15K PR was incredibly soft, 8:03 pace.
One of my teammates was chatting away to this British girl in miles six and seven, talking very comfortably. He seemed perfectly pleasant, but I found it rather annoying all the same — it wasn’t like I had the energy to chat up a storm like that. I said to myself I’d have to stay in front of him.
Going up Cat Hill I didn’t hear him anywhere behind me, and, relieved, eased it down a notch. Then I looked up and saw him 30 feet ahead of me. Awww frig! Now I’m going to gave kill myself, I thought.
Then I remembered that I had resolved not to race this thing, and thought the better of it. I don’t know what my chances were of catching him were anyways. He apparently finished nearly a full minute ahead of me, and I don’t think I slowed down that much in the last two miles. (I averaged 7:15 pace for the first two miles, 7:31 for the next two, and 7:41 for the last 5.3).
I did manage to score for the team, though, which is cool. 391 of 3,061 runners … 324 of 1,518 men. Oh, and after the race, I ran into Yvonne, whom I recognized from her blog. Also cool.
Hey – great to meet you too! How funny, we must have been running very close to each other the whole time. I heard someone talking to a British girl a lot of the way too, and also found it annoying. I also got a PR, but my old one was soft too!!!
Have a great Christmas!
