I’ve been reading with interest Rachel’s take on “raunch culture” and Ariel Levy’s book “Female Chauvinist Pigs”. I’m reminded this 17-year-old Muslim teenager I interviewed the other day, who wore this “half” niqab.*
“I’ve been told I’m a terrorist, that I’m degraded when I cover my body,” she said. “I’m not degraded, I’m making a choice!”
Everyone’s for freedom, I guess, until people start using it to make choices you disapprove of…
*I think that’s what it was. Like a burqua, with a headscarf, but no veil.
