Well, I should have run just a little bit faster, obviously, and broken 41 for today’s Scotland Run 10K. I’m feeling tired and my calves are sore. But it was a PR!
Mile 1: 6:32
Mile 2: 6:20
Mile 3: 6:27
Mile 4: 6:57
Mile 5: 6:39
Final 6.2: 8:11 (6:49 pace)
Overall: 41:01 net, 41:09 clock, 6:36 pace, 166 of 5126 runners … and 153 of 2789 men. I had a “perfection level” of 66.2%, my best at NYRR races since I ran the Fifth Ave. Mile in 2001 in 5:31 (67.7% perfection).
I was definitely feeling it on mile four … hills. So no negative splits, but this was a good race. And I broke my previous PR, set just four months ago, by 22 seconds.
This was also the first race that I ran with music! I think it helped, especially toward the end.
I felt strong going into this race and a little disappointed I didn’t run even stronger. But I’ll take a PR any day.
congrats on the PR-good seeing you afterwards! 🙂
so i take it that was the “furious” mix you were listening to?
i know there are those who think you don’t need music for short races (before the injury, I only used the mp3 player for half-marathons)-I do think it sorta helps me zone everything else out…and it helps to put better songs near the end too 🙂
Yea, let us in on the play list!
I will, Tom, I will! I just need to perfect it.
Congrats on your PR. At least you had no problem with your mp3 player. My ipod crashed on mile 3!
Nice job.
Congratulations on the PR!!
I’m impressed.
Derek, the perserverance it takes to run like you do is very admirable. I’ve been sticking to three miles a pop three or four times a week, and I’m finding it takes all my willpower and effort – a 6:20 mile is incredible on it’s own. Great job!
Thanks everyone! Dave, you just need to make it a daily thing, part of your everyday routine. None of this “three or four times a week” stuff … it takes willpower if you have to think about doing it, but if it’s an everyday thing you just have to do it.
Congrats on the PR! A perfect day for racing yesterday:)
Great job on the PR!
